Pregnancy miscarriage refers to pregnancy lose or termination of pregnancy. There may be many reasons why this may occur. This is generally likely to occur during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy i.e. during the first trimester.
Though there is a common tendency to blame the mother for a miscarriage in most of the cases it is not the mother’s fault that miscarriages happen. One of the main reasons for pregnancy is the chromosomal abnormality. Sometimes after fertilization the egg splits abnormally creating the wrong number of chromosomes. This fertilized egg cannot develop properly. In such a case the embryo attaches itself to the uterus and the placenta forms and the necessary HCG hormones are released giving positive signs of pregnancy but in due course the basic defects don’t let the embryo develop. There are other types of miscarriages where the embryo does not implant itself properly on the uterus or the embryo has structural defects or the placenta is not formed. These are generally referred to as molar pregnancies.
Bleeding and cramps are the surest ways to know that you
have a miscarriage. Though it is not necessary that it will always lead to
pregnancy termination. A midwife or a gynecologist can detect a miscarriage at
a regular visit. A stop in the heartbeat of the child can give an indication of
a miscarriage. When in doubt you would be advised to do an ultrasound or even
do a blood test. At lot care has to be taken when there is intense vaginal
bleeding in a miscarriage. Maybe immediate medical aid is needed at that time. This is a very difficult and emotional time to go through
for a woman. She must get proper emotional and physical support from her family
during this time. It is not necessary that all bleeding/spotting and cramps
culminates at miscarriage . With care and medical help it certainly can be
avoided.
